Aug. 13, 2010

OXFORD, Miss. - Vivian Vlaar, who hails from Kinrooi, Belgium, has singed a national letter of intent to join the 2010 SEC West Champion Ole Miss women's tennis team beginning this fall, head coach Mark Beyers announced Friday.

Vlaar reached the quarterfinals of the Dutch 18-under National Indoor Championships.  She is currently ranked No. 34 in the Dutch Senior Rankings.

"We are really excited to have Vivian join the program," Beyers said.  "She is a very good young player who undoubtedly will make a big impact on this team."

Vlaar joins a program coming off its best season in 10 years.  In 2010, the Rebels captured their second ever SEC West title, advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time since 1999 and finished the year ranked No. 17 in the nation.

The Rebels, who return five of their top six from last year, open the 2010-11 campaign Sept. 10-12 at the SEC Fall Coaches Classic in Auburn, Ala.
