Thompson Posts Double-Double in Rebels' Loss at ASU

Despite Lexi Thompson's 40th career and sixth double-double of the season, the Ole Miss volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Arkansas State in their final match of the A-State Invitational Saturday night at the Convocation Center.

The Rebels scored the first point of the match, and never led again in set one as the Red Wolves pulled away late for 25-19. Ole Miss led set two 10-6 early, but ASU used an 11-3 run to go up by four, 17-13. They went on to win it 25-19 and take a 2-0 lead. 

Looking to stay alive in the match, the Rebels battled hard in the third set. Leading by one, 21-20, they won four of the next five points to secure the set 25-21 and make it 2-1 Arkansas State.

The Red Wolves got out to an 8-4 lead in set four and never looked back finishing out the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.

• Ole Miss moved to 4-3 on the season. 
• The Rebels still lead the all-time series 26-18. 
• Sophomore Emily Stroup was named to the All-Tournament Team. She tallied 11 kills and 3 blocks and hit .241 against ASU. 
• For the tournament, Stroup led the Rebels with 46 kills (3.54 K/S) and hit .346. She also had 0.62 bocks per set.
• Senior Lexi Thompson posted her 40th career and sixth double-double of the season with 15 kills and 13 digs. She hit a season-high .367 to lead the Rebels.
Kate Gibson notched her fifth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs.
• Setters Jordan Fate (22) and Lauren Bars (19) combined for 41 assists.



Next up...
The Rebels will return home to host the Ole Miss Classic Sept. 7-8 at the Gillom Sports Center. Action begins Thursday at 11 a.m., as Ole Miss faces Northwestern State.
