OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's volleyball team ran up against the 18th-ranked team in the nation Sunday, and it proved too much, as South Carolina defeated the Lady Rebels 3-0 at the Gillom Sports Center.

Freshman outside hitter Elena Garcia led Ole Miss with nine kills on 32 attempts for a .219 attack percentage. Senior outside hitter Jaime Burns also had nine killps and nine digs. Junior Sarah Lansden recorded eight digs for the Lady Rebels, who hit only .069 for the match. South Carolina (9-1, 3-1) hit .412, led by junior right side hitter Cally Plummer, who finished with 11 kills on 21 attempts for a .381 hitting percentage.

"Going 1-1 this weekend is an acceptable outcome at this point, based on where we were coming into the matches, but we are not at the level we want to be," head coach John Blair said. "We still have room to improve, and hopefully this will be a catalyst for us to do that. South Carolina is an excellent team and worthy of a top 20 ranking. We plan to get better every week, and we are looking forward to being at home again next weekend."

Ole Miss (4-8, 1-2) led game one 3-1, but the Gamecocks took the lead 5-4. South Carolina led 16-13, before going on a 14-5 run to close out the game 30-18. The Gamecocks hit .432, while Ole Miss was held to .176.

Game two saw the Lady Rebels fall behind early, 7-1. South Carolina led 11-3 and then increased its lead to 17-5 before going on to take the game by a score of 30-11. The Lady Rebels hit a dismal -.192 percent in game two, while South Carolina hit .476.

In game three, the two teams battled back and forth with Ole Miss leading early on. South Carolina regained the lead at 11-10 and never trailed again, winning 30-20.

The Lady Rebels went 1-1 on the weekend versus the Gamecocks, as they defeated Jacksonville State 3-1 on Friday night. Burns had 20 kills and 21 digs to lead Ole Miss in the win.

Ole Miss will host a pair of SEC Western Division rivals next weekend beginning with Arkansas on Friday at 7 p.m. Sunday they will play LSU at 2 p.m.
