OXFORD, Miss. – Coming into this season, the Ole Miss volleyball team had never beaten Texas A&M. Now, they have won two in a row against the Aggies after a 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20) win Sunday afternoon at the Gillom Athletics Performance Center.

With the win, the Rebels improved to 16-12 overall and 7-8 in the SEC and swept the season series with the Aggies.

The Aggies led 15-13 at the media timeout of the first set and later grabbed seven set points at 24-17. The Rebels went on a 3-0 run to get within four as A&M called timeout. The Rebels won two more points, before the Aggies closed it out 25-22 on a kill from Hollann Hans.

Ole Miss rebounded and led 15-12 at the second set media timeout. They led 18-14, before the Aggies used a 4-0 run to tie it 18-18. Following a timeout, the Rebels went on a 7-3 run to finish off the set 25-21 and tie the match. The Aggies helped with some service errors and attack errors coupled by a pair of huge blocks from the Rebels.

Texas A&M held a narrow 15-14 lead at the first timeout of the third set, but then the Aggies won five of the next eight points to go up 20-17 as Ole Miss called its first timeout. Following the timeout, senior Lexi Thompson and sophomore Emily Stroup hit back-to-back kills and then an A&M attack error allowed the Rebels to tie it at 20-20. The Rebels never trailed again, closing out the set 25-22 to take a 2-1 lead.

Ole Miss jumped out to a 10-6 lead to begin set four and A&M called timeout. Strong serving again from the Aggies’ Hans pulled A&M back even at 10-10. From there it went back and forth until at 19-19, the Rebels closed on a 6-1 run to finish off the Aggies 25-20 for the win.

Talking with Emily Stroup
“When our outsides are hitting well, we seem to do better and get the win. Not just me, but Lexi and Kate contributed as well. We all played consistent today, and that is what helped us win.”

On having Nicole fill in as libero…
“We weren’t worried, because we knew nothing would change. Everyone knew Nicole would do a good job, and she did.”

Up next…
The Rebels are on the road next weekend at Tennessee on Nov. 17 and at Kentucky on Nov. 19. The Tennessee match will be on SECN+ at 6 p.m. CT, while the Kentucky match is now at 1 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.
