OXFORD, Miss. -- Ronaldo Pacheco, who spent the past two seasons at Tulsa as an assistant coach, has joined the Ole Miss volleyball staff in the same position, head coach Steven McRoberts announced Friday.
“I am glad Ronaldo is now a part of the Ole Miss volleyball staff,” McRoberts said. “He was a huge part of why Tulsa volleyball was so successful. He is a great trainer and he has a wealth of knowledge from both his professional experience and his coaching experience. He really has a passion for this game and he will work tirelessly to help us be successful here at Ole Miss.”
A former professional volleyball player in Brazil and Argentina, Pacheco joined the Tulsa coaching staff prior to the 2012 season. That year, he helped lead Tulsa to a 26-10 record, C-USA regular season and postseason championships and an NCAA Championship appearance. At Tulsa Pacheco was involved in planning practice, scouting, recruiting and conducting camps for the Hurricane. Pacheco also served as a student manager for the team from 2009-12.
Pacheco brings a wealth of coaching experience both on a national and international level. He served as the head coach for the Club Jundiai men’s volleyball squad in 2005, the Melhoramentos men’s volleyball team along with the Club Melhoramentos women’s junior volleyball squad in 2002. Pacheco also served as an assistant coach on the Brazilian women’s national team from 2004-07 and aided Brazil to a fourth-place finish at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
During his playing career (1983-2001), Pacheco played on 10 different teams including S.E. Palmerias, the Brazilian Superliga runner-up. He also played for the Brazilian National Team that captured a gold medal at the 1988 South American Junior Championship.
Pacheco is a native of Campinas, Brazil and graduated from the University of Tulsa in 2012 with a degree in psychology.
