OXFORD, Miss. – With the 2014 season almost a week away, the coaches as well as fans got a chance to see the Ole Miss volleyball team in a game-like setting, as the team held its annual Red/Blue scrimmage Thursday at the Gillom Sports Center.

Fans came out during their lunch hour and enjoyed free pizza while getting their first look at the 2014 Rebels. The team played a competitive four sets with each side winning two. First-year head coach Steven McRoberts liked what he saw.

“We did a lot of good things today,” McRoberts said.  “It was nice to see our passing be more steady. “We’ve been drilling that in practice.  It was also nice to see our defense play pretty well at times. Our hitting was kind of a rollercoaster.   We had some momentum swings where it was really good and then all of a sudden it was bad.”

Preseason continues Friday with one practice, and then the team will go to the soccer match to cheer on their fellow Rebels as they host Georgia in the first ever live event on the SEC Network.

Two-a-days conclude this weekend as classes begin Monday for the fall semester.  The team leaves next Wednesday for Buffalo, New York, where they will kick off the McRoberts Era at the Buffalo Classic Aug. 29-31.
