OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss volleyball team (1-2) will continue its early season road-tournament tour with three matches in Cincinnati, Ohio, beginning Friday with a doubleheader against Marquette and host-school Xavier. The Rebels will face Marquette at 9 a.m. CT and Xavier at 6 p.m. CT in the Cintas Center.
“We really want to get back out on the court after our opening tournament in Miami,” Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin said. “We got back to Oxford a day later than we had scheduled due to Hurricane Isaac, but we had some really strong practices Tuesday and Wednesday and we’re excited to see what we can do with that at the Xavier Invitational.”
The Rebels went 1-2 at the Hurricane Invitational last weekend, defeating Samford between a pair of five-set losses to Miami (Fla.) and Wofford.
Amanda Philpot, who will be heading back to her hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio, on Friday and Saturday, led the Rebels at the Hurricane Invitational, earning All-Tournament honors. The senior setter averaged 37.0 assists, 12.0 digs and 7.0 kills in Ole Miss’ three matches.
Senior outside hitter Kara Morgan led the Ole Miss attack with 12.33 kills per match, followed by senior right side hitter Allegra Wells, who registered 9.33 kills per match.
Defensively, senior Ashley Veach had a strong outing at the Hurricane Invitational, recording a career-high dig total of 30 against Miami (Fla.), her first match as the Rebels’ starting libero. Veach also dug 27 balls against Wofford, the second-most in her career.
Ole Miss will close out the Xavier Invitational with a match against Tennessee Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
