Sept. 3, 2012
Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin spoke with the media Monday afternoon.
"It was a good weekend for us. We opened up the tournament with a 3-0 loss to Marquette. We were a little disappointed in that outcome. We had chances. We beat them to 20 in each match. Then we just fell off a little bit. Then we had a set point in the third set and if we would have been able to win that we would have been in really good shape. After the match I was very frustrated with our senior leadership on the team. They responded very well (Saturday). They came back and beat the home team of Xavier, who was a very good defensive team. Ashley Veach set a school record for digs in that match. Kara Morgan had 20 kills which is her career high. I thought they really responded well to the whole situation. We walked away with 15-8 which is a pretty dominating last set. I was extremely pleased with that. We turned around and beat a Tennessee Tech team that we just physically overmatched. We were able to play some subs in the third game. Even the subs did a great job of stepping up to the plate for us. We get to finally come home to a home opener with Rice with a record of 2-4. They've played four top-25 teams. They haven't been successful against those teams but their stats are very good. We also play a very good North Dakota team. They're a very physical team with a lot of Midwestern farm girls on it. Then we play Alabama A&M. We're looking forward to being at home and getting our home opener underway."
