Rebels Drop 3-0 Match On Road To Missouri
The Ole Miss volleyball team got double-digit kill performances from Kara Morgan and Allegra Wells, but it wasn't enough to top Missouri (10-2, 2-0 SEC), as the Rebels (6-5, 0-2 Southeastern Conference) fell on the road 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-18).
OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss volleyball team (8-10, 2-7 Southeastern Conference) will be front and center this weekend with a pair of matches on TV against Missouri (14-5, 6-3 SEC) and South Carolina (13-7, 2-7 SEC) on Friday and Sunday at the Gillom Sports Center.
Ole Miss will host Missouri at 7:30 p.m. CT on Friday, with the match being shown live on SportSouth. Friday's match will also be shown on ESPN3.com, but is subject to a blackout within the SEC footprint. Sunday's match against South Carolina will begin at 1:00 p.m. CT and will be aired on Comcast.
Ole Miss fell 3-0 to Missouri during the opening weekend of conference play this season, but defeated South Carolina 3-0.
"It's good to be back at the Gillom Center facing a Missouri team that has been very impressive coming into the SEC," Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin said. "They beat us at their place, but we're about at the halfway point in the SEC season and we've made some improvements and we're looking forward to the rematch.
"South Carolina is a very dangerous team. With us going in and sweeping them, we have to be very careful we don't become complacent with them. I have a lot of respect for their team and coaching staff and I know that they're going to come in ready to play."
Friday is "Greek Night," where students will compete for a $1,000 cash prize. Two fans will also compete for a $50 Kroger card at halftime. On Sunday, three fans will be selected to compete for a $100 gift card to the Rebel Shop located at the Gillom Center. One fan will also have the opportunity to win cash in the Renasant Bank Cash Cube.
Junior outside hitter Kara Morgan leads the Rebels offensively this season with a team-high 3.16 kills per set. Freshman middle blocker Ty Laporte has strung together six consecutive matches of six or more kills, including a season-high 20 kills Sunday at Georgia.
Senior setter Amanda Philpot runs the Rebel attack with 9.00 assists per set to go along with her 1.78 kills per set and 2.33 digs per set. Senior libero Ashley Veach is currently second in the conference with 4.55 digs per set.
