Opening statement...
“We’re coming of a bye weekend. It was greatly appreciated and much needed, more for little nagging injuries like tendonitis in the jumpers’ knees and shoulders, that type of thing. We took a couple of extra days off, Monday and Tuesday, and then went three days. We had the weekend off, as well. We’ll practice today as we get ready for a tough stretch in the schedule going forward.

"Going forward, we play five matches in 10 days with four of those on the road right away. We go to Missouri and to Arkansas on Friday and Sunday. Missouri is undefeated and in the top 10 in the country right now. They’re playing very strong and with a lot of seniors on the floor. It will be a good match. Our kids are excited to play that match, just to see where we stack up against one of the best teams in the country, let alone the conference. Then we go to Arkansas, come home and have a quick turnaround. We’ll take a day off on Monday. We have to play Mississippi State, at State, on Wednesday. Then we’ll get back on the road Thursday to go to Tennessee. We play Tennessee on Friday, and then we’re home Sunday against Texas A&M. We have a long stretch in the middle of the season, but we’ve been preparing for it. With the bye weekend beforehand we made sure the kids caught up academically and so forth. We’re looking forward to it.”

On physical and mental challenges with tough stretch...
“For one, the freshmen are still learning how to travel. We’re afforded a great luxury being able to charter a flight to all of those matches except Mississippi State - we’ll drive over the morning of. That cuts down on some of the wear and tear on them. It’s just about staying focused. After being at home during football with recruiting, it’s kind of nice to be on the road and not have those responsibilities placed on the kids on an off day. It might even be a welcome trip.”

On bye-week improvements...
“With the mental fatigue and so many newcomers, we were hitting the wall a little bit. We’ve gotten a little fresher and regenerated their enthusiasm. Their passion has been big for us this week.”

On excitement of possibly giving Missouri its first loss...
“That’s what we’ve talked about. We’ve got nothing to lose on the road and we’re playing a top team. That’s why all of these kids are here, to play to that level of talent. It should be a fun match for us.”

On things the team could have done differently...
“One of the things we’ve seen is we’ve been competitive with everyone. Only in the Kentucky match did I feel like we didn’t compete that evening. It’s good that we can compete at that level with all of those teams. The thing we haven’t seen is consistency in the play. I don’t think we’ve clicked on all cylinders at the same time. Every time we’ve had a good match out of one player, it seems like another didn’t quite do what she did on Friday night. Consistency more than anything else and getting them to compete at a higher level.”
