Rebels Head To South Carolina, No. 17 Florida For Weekend Showdowns Ole Miss Takes Three Match Win Streak On The Road
Nov. 2, 2011
OXFORD, Miss. - With three straight wins under its belt, the Ole Miss volleyball team returns to the road this weekend to take on South Carolina and No. 17 Florida in a pair of televised matches.
The Rebels will face the Gamecocks of South Carolina at 6 p.m. CT on Friday in a match televised by Fox Sports, while Ole Miss will face the 17th-ranked Gators at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday in a match televised by CSS.
Ole Miss enters the weekend after picking up a pair of wins over Auburn and Georgia this past weekend at home and extended its current win streak to three games dating back to a road win over LSU on October 23.
"We have to take what we've learned this last home weekend and use it on the road," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin. "We'll have to face a very determined South Carolina team and a very good Florida team and hopefully keep building on the success we've had recently.
"Obviously South Carolina is better than their record indicates and we'll have to step up our game," Getzin continued. "Florida is a team that plays extremely well at home and we'll have to play some of our best volleyball to be competitive with them."
Leading the way for the Rebels is senior middle blocker Regina Thomas who is hitting a league-best .382 on the year and is coming off two solid performances against Auburn and Georgia. The middle hit a season-high .643 against the Bulldogs with 10 kills and three blocks to help lead Ole Miss to the shutout win.
She is joined on the attack by Allegra Wells, who leads the team on the year with 222 kills and averages 2.58 kills per set. In conference matches only, sophomore outside hitter Kara Morgan has been pacing the squad, putting down 140 kills and averaging 2.46 kills per set.
Defensively, it's been senior libero Morgan Springer on the back row setting the tone for Ole Miss. Springer is fourth in the league in digs, averaging 4.05 digs per set and has come up with 1,550 career digs heading into the weekend to put her atop the career dig list at Ole Miss.
Fans of Ole Miss volleyball can follow both matches on the internet via Gametracker at www.OleMissSports.com if the television broadcast of the match is unavailable in their area.
