Ole Miss Readies For Day Two Of GARC Tournament
2/20/2010 | Rifle
OXFORD, Miss. -- Day one of the 2010 GARC Championships is in the books, and the host Ole Miss Rebels now prepare for the air rifle portion of the tournament, which begins Sunday at 8 a.m. CT at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center. Admission is free.
"It's always nice to shoot at home," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "Other schools have come to know we're going to put on a great tournament. Ole Miss has the best facility to pull off a quality tournament."
The Rebels are in fifth place after the smallbore competition with an aggregate score of 2,265. Sophomore Keely Stankey topped the team with a score of 577 followed by junior Colleen Tillson with a 574. Meredith Holman and Kim Coffey closed out the Rebel smallbore line with scores of 559 and 555, respectively.
"We had some great individual performances," Boothe said. "Colleen and Keely both did really well. We couldn't quite keep our lead, but we shot a fairly decent team score. We ended up fifth overall, so we'll focus on air rifle tomorrow and come back strong."
With four of the eight competitors that reached the smallbore finals, West Virginia sits atop the team leader board with an aggregate of 2317. Nicco Campriani captured the individual smallbore crown with a 691.6, edging out Mountaineer teammate Tom Santelli and his 680.2.
