Box Score

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Whitney Craven put down 13 kills to lead the Rebel offense, but it wasn't enough to net a victory on the road as Ole Miss (9-5, 3-2 SEC) fell to No. 23 Tennessee (11-3, 4-2 SEC) on Friday night by a score of 3-0 (22-25, 16-25, 22-25).

Regina Thomas and freshman Kellie Goss combined for seven blocks, while Thomas added seven kills on the night. Miranda Kitts added eight kills on the night at the other blocker position. Morgan Springer came up with 15 digs to lead the back row defense of the Rebels.

"We came up against a very good Tennessee team that played very well tonight. It's disappointing that we didn't respond to their level of play. It's the SEC and there isn't time to feel sorry for yourself, though. We have to get back after it on Sunday when we face Kentucky."

It was back and forth out of the gates before the Rebels took a 9-7 lead on kills from Miranda Kitts and Amanda Philpot that pushed the Lady Vols into a timeout. Tennessee tied things out of the break with two quick points that locked the teams in a back and forth battle again. Ole Miss fell behind 17-15 and was never able to reclaim the lead as Tennessee went on to win the first set
25-22.

The Lady Vols jumped out to an early lead in the second set, moving up 7-3 on the Rebels to get things started. Ole Miss couldn't overcome the early deficit, keeping the Lady Vol lead at five before Tennessee put together another run late to claim the second set 25-16 heading into the intermission.

Set three opened with the squads again trading scores with the Lady Vols holding a slim two-point advantage on the Rebels. Ole Miss fell behind by as much as six before closing the gap to three at 13-10. The Lady Vols used another surge to push back out to a seven point lead at 22-15, but Ole Miss again fought back to cut the lead to two at 24-22, but couldn't complete the comeback as Tennessee claimed the match with a 25-22 win in set three.

Ole Miss will return to action on Sunday when the Rebels take on Kentucky at 12:30 p.m. CT. Fans can follow the match online via Gametracker at www.OleMissSports.com.
