BATON ROUGE, La. -- Three Rebels put down double-digit kills, including a double-double from Whitney Craven, but it wasn't enough to claim a tight road contest as Ole Miss (17-8, 11-5 SEC) fell to No. 16 LSU (22-2, 13-2 SEC) by a score of 3-1 (25-23 15-25, 26-28, 21-25) on Sunday.

Craven put down a team-high 14 kills and came up with 13 digs for the double-double, while Miranda Kitts and Allegra Wells both added 12 kills on the afternoon. Kitts also added five blocks to lead the team defensively at the net.

The Rebel back row defense saw five players notch double-digit digs, paced by Morgan Springer's 19 dig performance.

"It was a tough loss to a very good LSU team at home" said Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin. "I'm proud of the way the team fought and thought we showed some maturity today. We grew as a team. We have to get back in the gym and get ready for one more road weekend."

Ole Miss struck first to open the match, and after trading a couple of rallies, grabbed a two-point edge on the Tigers at 5-3. The squads traded blows, with LSU moving out to a one-point lead a couple of times, but the Rebels continued to respond. Ole Miss grabbed the lead back late and held to the two-point lead before taking the first set 25-23.

LSU responded in the second set, taking an early 4-0 lead on the Rebels to start things off. Ole Miss answered with a run to trim the lead to one at 6-5, but the Tigers again pushed back out in front with an answering run to take the advantage up to 17-11. The Rebels couldn't close the gap again, falling in the second set 25-15.

The third set was another back-and-forth battle as the Rebels reversed the second set opening and took the 4-1 lead out of the gates on the Tigers. LSU closed the gap, but couldn't overtake Ole Miss until taking a 24-23 lead. The Rebels fought off three set points, but LSU grabbed the third frame 28-26 two take a lead in the match.

Set four was more of the same with a nip-and-tuck battle with LSU holding to the slight advantage only to see the Rebels close the gap every time. After falling behind 12-10, the Rebels rattled off a four-point run to move out to a 14-12 lead and push LSU into a timeout. The Tigers answered with their own run, pushing out to a 21-17 lead from there and sending Ole Miss into a timeout. LSU proved to be too much down the stretch, however, claiming the match with a 25-21 win in the fourth set.

Ole Miss continues to play on the road next weekend with a pair of matches at Georgia and Auburn. The Rebels face Georgia at 6 p.m. CT on Friday night in Athens. Fans can follow the action via Gametracker at www.OleMissSports.com.
