Kitts, Morgan Help Rebels Take Down Texas Tech

HOUSTON, Texas - Miranda Kitts led the Rebels with 13 kills and hit .591 for the match as she led Ole Miss (1-1) to a win over Texas Tech (0-2) by a score of 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-9) to open the second day of play at the Rice Invitational.
Kitts did not commit an attack error in the outing as she was 13-for-22 in the match.
Several other Rebels also put on a show against the Red Raiders as freshman Kara Morgan hit .615 for the match with nine kills on 13 swings with one error. Allegra Wells carried over her performance from the season opener into the morning match with eight kills and a .583 attack percentage.
Morgan Springer led the defensive efforts with 16 digs.
What started as a close match early shifted about halfway through the first set as the Rebels took an 8-6 lead and put together a run, pushing out to a quick first set victory by a score of 25-18.
The second set was again close early, but the Rebels strung together another run to pull away and never looked back. Tied at seven, Ole Miss put together a nine point run that pushed the Rebels on top 16-7 and stormed to the finish from there. Ole Miss claimed the second set 25-16.
It was all Rebels in the third set as Ole Miss charged out to a 10-2 lead to open things up. The set was never in question as Texas Tech couldn't find an answer to the Rebel assault and Ole Miss claimed the match with a 25-9 victory in the third set.
The Rebels close out the tournament with a match against the host Rice Owls tonight at 7:30 p.m.
