Baseball Downs Arkansas State in Rain-Shortened Game

Rebels Earn 15-5 Win in Five Innings
The early run production paid off as the clouds opened up in the fourth inning, bringing on consistent showers. With the Rebels up 10 runs with one out recorded in the bottom of the fifth, the conditions were rendered unplayable and the game was called, handing the Rebels (4-0) their fourth win of the season.
Jack Washburn made his first start in a Rebel uniform, going three-plus innings with two runs allowed (one earned), striking out four. Dylan DeLucia posted four strikeouts with three runs allowed in 1.2 frames, while Cole Baker earned his first win in an Ole Miss jersey, striking out the only batter he faced.
After Arkansas State (0-4) took advantage of a Rebel error to garner a lead in the first, Ole Miss responded with three in the home half and never looked back. Kevin Graham got the scoring started, rifling a single down the right line to bring around Justin Bench and Jacob Gonzalez. TJ McCants followed with a single to center, plating Tim Elko to put the Rebs up 3-2. Ole Miss tacked on two more in the second on Bench's sacrifice fly and Gonzalez's slow roller to first
After a quiet third from both sides, Ole Miss found itself in a jam in the fourth as the first two batters were walked. However, DeLucia quickly extinguished the danger, striking out the side, and the Rebels followed up by breaking things wide open in the bottom half.
Following a Calvin Harris RBI single and a Bench two-run double the opposite way, Graham lifted a pitch high in the air and just past the Rebel bullpen for a three-run shot. Two pitches later, Hayden Leatherwood teed off on an offering and pulled it into the student section, making it 12-2. The back-to-back bombs set up Swayze Showers in quick succession, perhaps preluding the coming weather.
The Red Wolves scored three runs in the fifth but the Rebels got them right back on a Bench single to left and a Graham two-run double to the left-center gap. With rain continuing the build-up on the infield, the game entered a rain delay and was shortly thereafter halted, handing the Rebels a fourth straight win to begin the season.
Ole Miss continues its homestand this weekend, welcoming VCU to Oxford for a three-game series at Swayze. All three games will be streamed live on SEC Network +, with Friday's first pitch set for 4 p.m. CT.
