Elko and Alderman Blast Off in Losing Effort
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss fought back but had its comeback attempt fall short Sunday against Alabama, dropping a 7-3 game to the Crimson Tide at Swayze Field.
Alabama (21-12, 7-5 SEC) grabbed an early lead in the top of the first on Zane Denton's double to the left-center gap, scoring leadoff hitter Jim Jarvis. A few innings later, the Crimson Tide made it 3-0 in the third as Dominic Tamez doubled over Kevin Graham's head in left to plate a pair.
The Rebels got two runs back in the sixth to cut the Alabama lead to a single run. After Justin Bench was hit by a pitch, Tim Elko pummeled the first pitch he saw out to left, his 13th home run of the season.
The Tide got one run back on a Tommy Seidl solo shot but Ole Miss (19-12, 4-8 SEC) once again struck to get within a run in the seventh and did so in a big way. Kemp Alderman took a 1-0 offering and sent it into the parking lot, hammering a 481-foot bomb to left field.
The next half inning, Andrew Pinckney restored the two-run advantage with a solo blast of his own and Denton added a two-run shot in the ninth. From there, Alabama closed things out to secure the sweep.
Ole Miss will look to move on in Tuesday's matchup with Murray State. It'll be Kids Day at Swayze Field, with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. CT. The game can be watched through SEC Network + or listened to via the Ole Miss Radio Network.
