FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Whitney Craven put down 21 kills while Allegra Wells added 11, but it wasn't enough to pick up a win on the road as Ole Miss (17-7, 11-4 SEC) fell at Arkansas (13-13, 7-8 SEC) by a score of 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 20-25, 20-25).
Craven and Wells were the only two Rebels to reach double-digits in kills on the night. Craven notched a double-double with 10 digs and was one of five Rebels to put up double digit numbers defensively. Morgan Springer led with 16 digs on the evening.
Freshman middle blocker Brenea White led Ole Miss in blocks in her first action of the season, putting down four blocks against the Razorbacks.
"It's a tough loss for us on the road. At times we battled hard, but we have to find a way to sustain that energy a little bit more on the road," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin.
The squads opened the match trading scores before Arkansas opened up a slim two-point lead. The Rebels fought back to erase the deficit, answering each run the Razorbacks tried to put together. Ole Miss edged in front on a kill from Kitts and a block to take a 10-8 lead on the home team.
Arkansas responded with a run of its own, pushing back out in front of the Rebels by two at 13-11 only to see Ole Miss push back to pull even in the set again at 15 all. The Rebels called a timeout when Arkansas inched back out to an 18-16 lead, but were pushed into another timeout moments later as the lead swelled to 21-17 in favor of the Razorbacks.
Again Ole Miss found an answer, using a run of its own to send Arkansas into a timeout with the lead trimmed to one at 21-20. The Razorbacks pulled back out to a lead, only to call another timeout when the Rebels put together another run to cut the lead to 24-23. Arkansas grabbed the next point, however, taking the first set 25-23.
Ole Miss jumped out to a quick lead on the Razorbacks to open set two, taking a 4-1 lead on the home team and pushing Arkansas into a timeout at 6-3. The Rebels continued to add to the lead, pushing out to a six-point edge at 13-7 and sending Arkansas into a second timeout.
The Rebels maintained the lead from there, calling a timeout when the Razorbacks cut the advantage to three at 19-16. Ole Miss pushed on out to the win from there, taking set two 25-19.
The third set opened much like the first, with both squads trading scores in the early stages of the frame. Arkansas pulled away with a run, however, sending the Rebels into a timeout down 10-6. After the Razorbacks pulled ahead by seven, Ole Miss answered with a furious rally to cut the lead to two at 16-14 and send Arkansas into a timeout of its own. The Rebels snagged two more quick scores to tie the set at 16 out of the break.
Arkansas responded with its own run to push back out to a three-point lead from there and Ole Miss could never close the gap, dropping the third set 25-20.
The Rebels fell behind early in the fourth set as Arkansas opened up a 5-1 lead to start things off.
Ole Miss fought back, tying the set at six, but the Razorbacks strung together another quick run of scores to reclaim the lead.
The Rebels would never overtake the Razorbacks as Arkansas claimed the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set.
Ole Miss will return to action on Sunday when the Rebels take on No. 16 LSU in Baton Rouge at 1:30 p.m. Fans can follow the action via live stats at www.OleMissSports.com.
